I love experiencing the natural beauty around me whenever I can be outdoors. What better place to be reflective?
As educators, reflective practice hones our facilitation and feedback skills; modeling and teaching reflective practice is also critical in helping students grow as life-long learners.
I have been an educator for over 25 years and have enjoyed designing courses, learning activities, and assessments to engage learners. I’ve taught academic writing, research, and communication skills in a variety of educational settings.
As a writing specialist in the Student Academic Success Center, I’ve been providing instructional writing support for students at UNE since 2009. I meet and coach online graduate students in one-on-one appointments, focusing on developing writing strategies and critical thinking skills. In addition, I create asynchronous resources to help students understand and apply writing concepts in different contexts.
I have explored reflective practice as a result of participating in an ePortfolio Faculty Learning Community. My questions: What forms does it take? How do we help student see its relevance to their academic work, personal growth, and career goals? How do we support students in practicing it effectively? These questions led to co-facilitating a mini-Faculty Learning Community about reflective practice in 2022.
